The Veterans Book Project

Monica Haller, a friend of the LBM crew, is having a fundraiser for her amazing Veterans Book Project. Here is a description of the project from here website:

“The Veterans Book Project is a library of books authored collaboratively by artist Monica Haller and dozens of people who have been affected by, and have archives of, the current American wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In their printed format, the books provide a place or “container” that slows down and materializes the great quantity of ephemeral image files that live on veterans’ hard drives and in their heads.”

Work

Sorry for the quiet blog of late. I’ve been on the road since the holidays. After some lonely nights in Kansas, I worked on a fantastic assignment in Rockford, Illinois for the New York Times Magazine. (Read about the making of this work here). Now I’m in Italy preparing for a workshop and lecture at Cesuralab. Meanwhile, the LBM team has been busy mailing out copies of Broken Manual and preparing new publications. Forgive our silence during this mushroom spawning season.

Workshop: MAKING A PHOTOGRAPHIC BOOK, with Alec Soth

In this two-day workshop at Cesuralab in Pianello Val Tidone, Italy, Alec Soth will discuss different approaches to conceiving and executing the production of a photographic book. Along with the issues of editing, sequencing, layout and design, Soth will speak about the diverse distribution channels available to contemporary photographers.
